How Effective is Precooling the Interior?
If your vehicle doesn’t have remote engine start technology, you don’t have the luxury of stepping into an interior with your optimal temperature from the get-go. While you may be able to start the car manually and let the A/C run, this actually isn’t the most efficient way to cool off a warm interior.
Your car’s air conditioning is strongest when you’re actually driving – your engine turns faster when you’re on the go, meaning the A/C compressor also runs faster, resulting in a more robust cooling solution. Instead of precooling, consider turning the A/C on when you start driving, and open all the windows to provide some relief before the cool air starts to flow in.
Keep an Eye on Your Air FIlter
If you have an older air filter, debris can be preventing your system from providing the coolest air it can. Swap out any filter with accumulated dirt and replace it with a brand new one to experience optimal airflow within your cabin.
Too Cold? Low Temp, Low Fan
If you’re prone to getting too cold when the A/C has been running for a while, you may think to just increase the temperature of the system. However, it’s better for your A/C to stay on the coldest setting and just lower the fan strength, as increasing temperature would just make the system work harder by reheating cool air, leading to less fuel efficiency.
Recirculation Mode
Recirculation mode may not be as effective for passengers in the backseat, as the system takes air from the front of the cabin and pulls it towards the back. Essentially, while those in the front stay cool, rear–seat passengers may be stuck with warmer air.
